Technically I’m disabled, but I don’t qualify for disability because I refuse psychiatric meds, the side effects are more severe than the benefits. I’m not going to take something that will make me worse instead of better, but not taking psychiatric meds disqualifies me from being eligible for disability. I treat myself with natural supplements instead, they help me much more than prescription meds ever have with no side effects.
Also, it costs me $25+ one way to get even just 8 miles from my home using ride-share, I can’t afford to pay $50+ a day to get to and from work. The jobs listings in my city are like: $13/hour, no benefits, bachelors degree required.
The bus? Don’t get me started on what a fucking joke public transportation is where I live. It takes me an average of 2 hours one way to get anywhere on the bus, that would be 12 hours out of my day just to get to work, work for 8 hours, then get home, I can’t leave my dog stuck in the apartment that long.
The only jobs I can get are within walking distance. There’s plenty of options, actually, but not one of them would pay me enough. I’d work 40 hours a week and still have to do porn and cam just to make enough to cover basic expenses. My one bedroom apartment, non luxury, 680 sq ft, runs $1500/month.
I’d rather struggle and work my ass off as an independent contractor than work 40 a week for a company that doesn’t pay me a living wage.
